About the Cause
Currently, over 80% of people with a legal problem get no help whatsoever. That means tens of thousands of people across the country may lose their housing, families, jobs, and savings with absolutely no access to representation. Open Door Legal is changing that.
Our Impact
Open Door Legal is dramatically reducing poverty in communities of color by pioneering the country’s first system of universal access to legal help.
Our model is simple: everyone with a real legal need gets competent and timely help, regardless of their ability to pay. We do this work because we believe that legal aid is the least funded and most cost-effective way to reduce poverty and homelessness in San Francisco. Our team covers over 35 areas of law, including housing, immigration, consumer fraud, and more. In the past year, we have grown to cover 40% of San Francisco’s low-income population, and hope to be citywide in the next 3 years.
