These Data Scientists are Fighting for Human Rights through Big Data.
“We show that statistics have human consequences”
About the Cause
The Human Rights Data Analysis Group (HRDAG) is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization that applies rigorous science to the analysis of human rights violations around the world. As scientists, HRDAG works to support its partners by producing unbiased, scientific results that bring clarity to human rights violence. HRDAG applies science to create new knowledge, establishes a scientifically defensible historical record of human rights abuses, publishes public reports and provides expert testimony in war crimes trials, and invents and extends scientific methods. HRDAG also educates through speaking engagements, publications, and training graduate students.
Our Impact
HRDAG’s work with statistical data and reasoning in the human rights community has impacted countless lives. From police accountability to the COVID-19 pandemic to Mexico’s hidden graves, HRDAG covers a wide range of issues around the world. Over the last 20 years, HRDAG has illuminated gaps in the false narratives of perpetrators of human rights violations. They have clarified the facts with science and statistics. They have calculated what’s missing and restored justice in cases of undocumented deaths and abuses. Their impact is powerful, necessary, and unique in the human rights community.
