“I didn’t just get a visa. I got my family.”

About the Case

For many, having a safe place to stay and call home is not a guarantee. With over 70 million displaced refugees seeking asylum, it’s incredibly tough navigating through the complex legal process of applying for protection. Families are torn apart in the prolonged and fraught path to freedom, and refugees are amongst the most vulnerable populations within Australia’s legal system. For refugees, a negative decision on their status could mean jeopardizing their livelihoods and being sent back into danger.

Now, through Refugee Advice and Casework Service (RACS), refugees are guided through the Australian legal process by RACS’ team to gain the protection and security they deserve.

Our Impact

RACS works to seek justice and achieve dignity for refugees in Australia by providing legal services and advocacy. They help financially disadvantaged and vulnerable people seek asylum—including, but not limited to:

  • women who have experienced or fear domestic, family or gender based violence
  • members of the LGBTIQA+ community
  • stateless people
  • children who are seeking protection without their parents
  • people seeking family reunion in Australia

RACS advocates for system law reform and policy that treats refugees with justice, dignity and respect, and makes complaints about serious human rights violations, to Australian and United Nations complaints bodies.

Your Donation

With no federal government funding, RACS relies on donations, grants and pro-bono support to continue their vital work; the vital humanitarian work of RACS can only continue with your help.
