Delbo and Diplo to release Ruth Bader Ginsburg NFT for Justice Charity
After more than a year of COVID-19, charities have felt the impact of the pandemic more than most organizations. The economic shock has seen donations dry up, and opportunities to give to charity in person are few. Yet, nonprofits’ demand for aid is at an all-time high. With more people seeking help, but funds dwindling, charities are struggling. The Legaler Aid charity hopes to radically change that, with its NFT charity auction featuring legendary comic artist Jose Delbo and world renowned recording artist, DJ and producer, Diplo in collaboration with the expert 3D animators at Vúho and professional comic colorist Ross Campbell.
Like the rest of the world, philanthropy is turning to technology to adapt. In the case of Legaler Aid, that tech is NFTs, the blockchain-based digital art taking the creative world by storm. The charity will see leading artists collaborating to release limited edition pieces for charity auction. These will not only fund their mission to help the eviction crisis but also act as permanent touchstones for the charity’s values of justice and fairness
NFTs for Charity
Traditionally, charities have held fundraising events to rally attention and resources. In our world of lockdowns, restrictions and the need for social distancing, these events have become impossible.
As an alternative, nonprofits are turning to non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, to attract much-needed donations. NFTs are a scarce digital asset, like an image or video, that can only be owned by a single user, just like physical art. Anyone can possess a copy of the piece, but only one person can own it. They are created on a blockchain, allowing anyone to verify that purchasing funds are transferred to charities and then spent appropriately.
Nonprofits are already reaping the benefits of the NFT revolution, with Black Girls Code raising $82,000 and various arts programs raising $623,000, respectively.
Introducing: ‘Justice Reigns Supreme’ by Delbo x Diplo
The Legaler Aid charity is dropping a series to pay homage to the Justice Heroes that have paved the way to equal and fair justice. The first piece? ‘Justice Reigns Supreme’, a collaboration between legendary DC and Marvel comic artist Jose Delbo and world renowned recording artist, DJ and producer, Diplo. The artists will join forces to celebrate the truly heroic legacy of Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, better known as simply RBG, was a trailblazer for women’s rights in the United States. A real-life Wonder Woman, she was instrumental in advancing gender equality from her seat on the Supreme Court bench. With this NFT, Legaler Aid aims to pay tribute to her life’s work and the legacy her iconic image continues to represent today.
She will be depicted by Jose Delbo, the legendary illustrator who worked in the heyday of comic books. He has drawn iconic superheroes like Batman, Superman and The Transformers to name a few. Now, he is a prominent NFT creator, having just released a 43-page comic book in the form of an NFT. For this drop, he has collaborated with a team of expert 3D animators from the animation studio Vúho and professional comic book colorist Ross Campbell to bring RBG to life as a superhero and give her the tribute she deserves.
The musical artist hardly needs an introduction. Diplo is a world renowned recording artist, DJ and producer, having worked with the likes of Justin Bieber and Snoop Dogg. Recently, he has delved into the NFT space, releasing tokens of his own and lending his musical talents to other creators.
The token will be auctioned on MakersPlace, with the proceeds of the sale helping to fund legal clinics aiming to help with the impending eviction crisis.
The Impending Eviction Crisis
The COVID-19 pandemic has created crushing financial hardship for many around the world. Now, some estimates say up to 40 million Americans are at risk of losing their homes when the moratorium on evictions expires on June 30, 2021.
When that happens, millions of Americans face the very real threat of homelessness. An avalanche of legal proceedings will follow.
The proceeds of the NFT charity auction will be directed to the development and nationwide rollout of virtual legal clinics that will assist tenants by connecting them to a network of volunteer lawyers via video on the Legaler Aid platform. This assistance will be crucial to save the livelihoods of millions of struggling Americans.
