Donors
Where does my money go?
We will never send your money to anyone other than the campaign owner listed on the campaign page that you donated to.
If you donate money to a campaign with a campaign goal, we will receive your donation, less charges levied by the third-party payment provider. We will hold it for the duration of the campaign. If the campaign reaches its goal, we will transfer the full amount held to the Campaign Owner listed on the campaign page.
If you donate money to a campaign with a Pure Donation Designation or without a campaign goal, we will receive your donation, less charges levied by the third-party payment provider. We will transfer amounts received in batches to the Campaign Owner listed on the campaign page.
What if the campaign I donated to doesn’t reach its goal?
If you donated money to a campaign and it doesn’t reach its campaign goal, you will receive the amount of your original donation back, less any applicable payment processing fees that may apply.
If, however, the campaign page is marked with a Pure Donation Designation, then you will not receive any money back, even if the campaign fails to reach its campaign goal. If the campaign page does not have a goal, you will not receive any money back.
Case Owners
Who can raise funds on Legaler Aid?
In order to submit a case to Legaler Aid, you must currently be represented by a law firm or legal service organization. There are no requirements as to how high-profile or financially significant your legal issue must be.
For more information on which cases we will and will not accept, see our Terms of Use.
How do I receive my funds?
You may choose to receive funds one of two ways, on the condition of a goal or as Pure Donations.
Firstly, you may receive funds on the condition that a goal is achieved. We will receive and hold money donated, less applicable fees. If the campaign reaches its goal, we will remit the full amount held to the Campaign Owner listed on the campaign page.
Alternatively, your campaign may not have a goal or be marked as receiving funds on a Pure Donation basis. In this case, we will receive and hold money donated, less applicable fees. We will remit that amount in batches to the Campaign Owner listed on the campaign page.
How much does running a campaign on Legaler Aid cost?
It is free for you to submit your campaign to Legaler Aid and, if approved, to host it on our platform. Two fees apply to donations made to your campaign. These are an administrative fee of 3% charged by Legaler Aid, and a payment processing fee levied by third-party payment providers.
For more information, see our Terms of Use.
How can I increase donations?
A campaign’s funding is only as good as its marketing. We’ll do some of the work, by hosting your campaign on our website, sharing the cases that resonate with us, and allowing individuals to register to receive updates on the case, increasing the likelihood of donations.
The rest is up to you! Write a compelling description on your campaign page, share the link widely on multiple channels and don’t forget an explicit ask to donate!
